The ChLA Global Committee invites you to join the upcoming Children's Literature Association's Global South Speakers Series!
Written in Hindi spoken in the Chhota Nagpur region, Varun Grover and Raj Kumari’s graphic memoir Biksu, based on a 35-page letter from Kumari’s cousin, uses non-sequential comic panels, irregular speech bubbles, and symbols and motifs from Madhubani painting. Dr. Shweta Sachdeva Jha’s analysis demonstrates how the memoir resists a linear reading of Biksu’s past and coaxes us to unpeel the complex temporal layers of his recollections.
