ChLA 2019: Thank You!

Ebony Elizabeth Thomas, Karen Sands-O'Connor, Melanie Ramdarshan Bold, Aishwarya Subramanian, and Patrice Lawrence

The International Committee’s focus panel on Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic British literature was a huge success, and we would like to thank the ChLA board for their continuing support of our efforts to broaden the membership’s understanding of children’s literature around the globe.

We also thank all the members who attended the panel as well as the participants, Patrice Lawrence, Melanie Ramdarshan Bold, and Aishwarya Subramanian. Award-winning author Patrice Lawrence’s very personal account of what it took to break into British publishing as a person of color were underscored by Melanie Ramdarshan Bold’s work on BAME British authors of young adult literature, and Aishwarya Subramanian’s historical look back to diverse literature of the 1970s.

We on the International Committee were pleased to host this discussion of British literature, and look forward to next year’s discussion of Korean literature as well.
