2018 International Committee Panelists

The ChLA International Committee is pleased to announce the panelists for the 2018 sponsored panel, focusing on Germany.


Ute Dettmar

Ute Dettmar is head of the Institute for Children’s Literature and Professor of Children’s and Young Adult Literature at Goethe-University Frankfurt. She received her PhD in 2000 with a thesis on the history of children’s plays, published as Das Drama der Familienkindheit. Der Anteil des Kinderschauspiels am Familiendrama des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts (München: Fink 2002). She is the Distinguished Speaker of the focus panel and will be discussing Comedy in German Children's Literature.


Daniel Feldman

Daniel Feldman is a lecturer of English literature at Bar-Ilan University in Israel, where he specializes in Holocaust literature and young adult fiction of the Holocaust. His essays on Holocaust children’s literature have been published in the Children’s Literature annual and in The Lion and the Unicorn. His articles on poetry appear in Comparative Literature and Partial Answers. He has also written about child refugees in contemporary children’s literature, especially in comparison with accounts of the Holocaust. He is currently completing a book manuscript on the use of play in young adult literature of the Holocaust, a project supported by a Children’s Literature Association faculty research grant.


Ada Bieber

Ada Bieber, PhD, is a Lecturer in the Department of German Literature at Humboldt-University, Berlin. Ada is the author of a monograph on James Krüss' 'Tales of 101 Days' (2012), co-editor of an edited volume on modern robinsonades, as well as numerous articles and book chapters. Her research areas are German and international children’s and youth literature and film, including political literature, Holocaust and exile, East German children’s narratives, picture books, and downriver narratives. Ada currently serves on the Academic Advisory Board for the Yearbook Children’s and Youth Literature of the German Children’s and Youth Literature Research Association (2017-21), and on the ChLA Publications Advisory Board (2017-2020).
