2017 International Committee Panelists
The ChLA International Committee is pleased to announce the panelists for the 2017 sponsored panel, focusing on Cuban Children's Literature.
Narrator, critic, playwright, radio scriptwriter for 20 years, and literary researcher, Luis Cabrera Delgado is a psychologist by profession. He has been recognized nationally and internationally with prizes such as the Manuel Ascunce Domenech Medal and the International Short Story or Poetry Contest of Salta, Argentina. His works have been translated into Russian, Danish, Portuguese, Germany, and Italian. Among his best-known works are Antonio, el pequeño mambí (1995), Tía Julita (1987), El niño de la bota (1989), Pedrín (1991), Mis dos abuelos (1992), Carlos el titiritero (1994), Los calamitous (1995), Nano y Nino (1995), Catalina la maga (1997), Mayito (1997) and Raúl, su abuela y los espíritus (1998).
Zeila Frade recently received her PhD in Spanish with a dissertation on Cuban children’s literature from Florida International University. She was a Cuban Heritage Collection Graduate Fellowship recipient, spending three months in the Collection doing research for her dissertation. She currently teaches Spanish at Belen Jesuit Preparatory School in Miami.
Niall Nance-Carroll is a doctoral candidate at Illinois State University. He is currently completing his dissertation, titled “The Stuff of Everyday Life: A Bakhtinian Reading of the Prosaic Worlds of A. A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner, Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl, and David Lodge’s Souls and Bodies.” His research interests include children’s and adolescent literature, ethics, politics, narrative theory, popular culture, and everyday life, and he has previously published on A. A. Milne, Antonio Skármeta, and the television series Glee.
