International Committee Welcomes New Members

Erica Hateley, Vanessa Joosen, and Tanja Nathanael

The ChLA International Committee is pleased to welcome three new members to our team. Erica Hateley, Vanessa Joosen, and Tanja Nathanael will serve three-year terms from 2015-2018.

Erica Hateley is a Professor of English at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, Norway. She has published widely on issues of cultural values in children’s literature and is the author of Shakespeare in Children's Literature: Gender and Cultural Capital (Routledge, 2009).

Vanessa Joosen is a Professor in English Literature at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, where she specializes in children's literature. She is the author of Critical and Creative Perspectives on Fairy Tales (Wayne State UP, 2011) and Wit als sneeuw, zwart als inkt (Lanoo, 2014), a study on the Dutch reception of Grimm’s fairy tales.

Tanja Nathanael is ABD, pursuing an English Literature doctorate at the University of Southern Mississippi. Her research interests include nineteenth century British Literature—especially Old Northern antiquities as celebrated by the Victorians—and Children’s Literature, including broader connections to world and international literatures within these areas. She also maintains research interests in science fiction, fantasy, and fairy tales as they pertain to British identity. She also serves on the FILLM Studies in Languages and Literatures Advisory Board for The International Federation for Languages and Literatures (FILLM).

The international committee consists of six rotating members elected for three-year terms and a chair appointed by the President with the approval of the Executive Board for a term of three years. Terms begin immediately following the ChLA annual business meeting.
